Remote opening is a banking process, not an online shortcut
Remote account opening means completing an eligible Georgian bank onboarding route without the applicant attending the bank in person. Depending on the bank and profile, it can involve preliminary digital identification, a video interview, a Power of Attorney, a representative in Georgia or a combination of these steps.
The route is not universally available and can change with bank policy. A website form or consultant instruction does not create a right to an account. The bank still needs to identify the client, understand the purpose, verify source of funds and decide whether remote onboarding is acceptable.
BankAccount.ge coordinates remote cases as an independent consultancy. We assess feasibility, prepare the KYC narrative, identify documents, arrange suitable authority and facilitate communication. We cannot approve the account, waive a compliance requirement or promise that personal presence will never be requested.
Profiles more and less suited to remote opening
A clear individual profile with verifiable income, transparent tax residence, a specific Georgian banking purpose and straightforward transaction countries is generally easier to assess than a complex or unexplained case. Existing ties to Georgia, property, relocation, investment or a credible business can help establish purpose.
Remote corporate applications require transparent ownership, an understandable business model, reliable company documents, identified signatories and evidence of funding and expected trade. Several holding layers, nominees, regulated activity or higher-risk countries may make remote opening impractical.
Nationality alone does not decide the result. Banks consider residence, sanctions exposure, occupation, source of wealth, counterparties and the entire relationship. Some applicants may be eligible only in person; others may not fit current policy at all. We aim to identify that before PoA and courier costs are incurred.
What we review before recommending the remote route
The first review covers nationality, residence and tax residence, occupation or company activity, income, source of wealth, expected turnover, currencies, incoming and outgoing countries, counterparties, reason for Georgia and prior account applications. Corporate cases add ownership, directors, website, contracts and source of initial funding.
We then consider whether personal opening, corporate opening or both are needed; which bank route may fit; whether a PoA is required; and which documents may need certification. The assessment should occur before notarisation because the wrong text or execution form can make a document unusable.
Provide accurate facts rather than an idealised profile. If a large transfer, crypto-derived funds, complex ownership or a previous decline is relevant, disclose it. Remote onboarding can involve deeper questions because the bank does not meet the client at a branch.
Remote KYC and supporting documents
A valid passport is essential, but a remote file commonly needs proof of address, residence status, tax identification, recent bank statements, occupation and income evidence, source-of-funds documents and a clear account-purpose statement. The bank can request further material at any stage.
Corporate cases add current registry and charter documents, director and shareholder records, ownership chart, representative authority, business evidence, contracts, invoices, website information and transaction projections. Personal KYC for beneficial owners and signatories is usually relevant.
Files should be complete, legible and internally consistent. Confirm accepted language and certification requirements. A scan may be used for preliminary review while an original or certified copy is still required for completion. Do not send passwords, card numbers or authentication codes.
The Power of Attorney must match the bank process
A Power of Attorney authorises a representative to perform defined acts. For banking, those acts may include submitting an application, signing specified forms, receiving account information or arranging cards. The necessary powers depend on the bank and service; overly generic wording can be rejected, while unnecessarily broad wording creates risk.
We prepare or coordinate the draft after the route is assessed. The applicant then follows the correct local notary, apostille or legalisation process. Georgian translation may be required. Each stage should preserve names, passport details and authority accurately.
A PoA does not transfer the bank’s decision to the representative. The applicant remains the proposed customer and must satisfy KYC. Read the expanded banking Power of Attorney guide before execution.
Remote identification and compliance questions
The bank may require a video call or other remote identification. The applicant should attend personally, use a reliable connection, have the original passport available and answer questions consistently with the submitted file. A representative should not answer personal KYC questions on the client’s behalf.
Expect questions about occupation, business, source of money, reason for Georgia, expected transactions, countries, counterparties and how the account will be used. Corporate owners may be asked about operations, staff, contracts and management.
Do not rehearse misleading answers. Preparation means understanding the facts and documents, not disguising activity. If the bank asks for further evidence after the interview, provide a complete and organised response. Failure to attend or inconsistent answers can delay or end the process.
Notarisation, apostille, translation and courier delivery
Documents executed abroad may require notarisation followed by apostille under the Hague Convention or consular legalisation where apostille is unavailable. Requirements depend on the issuing country, document and bank. A certified Georgian translation can be needed after the original reaches Georgia.
Originals should be sent through a trackable courier to the confirmed recipient. Do not ship before scans have been checked and the address is verified. Keep copies and tracking information. Documents can expire or become outdated if the process is delayed.
Notary, apostille, legalisation, translation and courier costs are separate from our professional fee unless expressly included. Using the correct sequence reduces the risk of repeating expensive formalities.
Remote personal and corporate pricing
Our published professional fee for an eligible remote personal-account service is €750. It covers the agreed eligibility, KYC preparation and remote onboarding coordination, including the appropriate Power of Attorney route. The scope is confirmed after review.
Remote corporate opening is priced individually because ownership, documents, activity and signatory arrangements differ significantly. A single-owner Georgian LLC is not equivalent to a foreign multi-layer group or regulated business.
Bank fees, account packages, cards, notary, apostille, legalisation, translation and courier costs are additional unless a written offer states otherwise. Payment covers professional work and coordination, not a guaranteed bank decision.
Why remote opening can take longer than a visit
Remote timing includes more than the bank’s review. Drafting, local notary appointments, apostille or legalisation, international courier, translation, remote identification and follow-up all add dependencies. An error at an early stage can require re-execution.
The process normally moves through feasibility, document preparation, PoA confirmation, certification, original delivery, submission, bank review and activation. Some work can overlap, but the bank controls its own queue and may change requirements.
Do not promise a payment date, property closing or commercial launch based on an unapproved remote account. Maintain existing banking until the Georgian relationship is active. Our costs and timelines guide separates professional, bank and third-party components.
Remote activation, account access and cards
After approval, the client may need to complete telephone, email, device or video verification for digital access. The bank determines whether a physical card can be collected by a representative, delivered or must wait for the client. Product and card rules differ.
Confirm the telephone number that will remain available abroad and ensure international roaming or app access works. Never send one-time codes, passwords or full card details to a consultant. Formal representatives should act only within their authority.
Remote clients remain subject to ongoing KYC. Keep address, tax residence and occupation updated and retain evidence for transfers. If account use changes from the declared profile, inform the bank rather than waiting for a transaction to be stopped.
Additional considerations for a remote company account
The bank needs to know who controls the company and who will use the account. Corporate authority and personal identity are separate issues: a valid company resolution or PoA does not replace KYC for directors, signatories and beneficial owners.
Prepare the ownership chart, business model, contracts, projected transaction matrix and initial funding. Explain where management occurs and why a Georgian bank is operationally relevant. The bank may request a call with owners even if a local representative submits documents.
Complex structures, foreign corporate chains and regulated industries can require personal presence or a different route. We quote and proceed only after assessing the actual company. See the full corporate banking service.
Common reasons a remote route fails
Executing a generic PoA before the bank route is confirmed.
Using incorrect notary, apostille or legalisation formalities.
Submitting scans when originals or certified copies are required.
Giving inconsistent answers during remote identification.
Expecting the representative to replace the applicant’s KYC interview.
Hiding prior declines, countries, owners or source-of-funds concerns.
Assuming remote availability is permanent bank policy.
If the bank requires a visit, the applicant can decide whether to change route. No consultant can compel a bank to preserve remote processing when its compliance team requests personal presence.

Questions answered
Practical answers before you apply
Can every foreigner open a Georgian account remotely?+
No. Remote availability depends on the profile, bank and current policy.
Is a Power of Attorney always required?+
Not in every possible route, but it is commonly relevant when a representative must act in Georgia.
Does the PoA guarantee approval?+
No. It provides authority only; the applicant must still pass the bank’s KYC review.
What is the remote personal service fee?+
Our published professional fee is €750 for an eligible case. Third-party and bank costs are separate.
Can a company account be opened remotely?+
Potentially, after reviewing ownership, activity, documents and signatories. Pricing is individual.
Will I need a video interview?+
The bank may require remote identification or an interview and can request personal presence.
Can my card be sent abroad?+
Card collection or delivery depends on the bank and approved product; it must be confirmed for the case.
How long does remote opening take?+
No fixed period is guaranteed because certification, courier and compliance review all affect timing.
Can BankAccount.ge access my online banking?+
No. Clients should never share passwords or authentication codes.
What if the bank later requests a visit?+
The applicant must decide whether to attend. Remote assessment cannot remove the bank’s discretion.
